Gyn Wolf's story: Chapter Sixteen-Reunion

Gyn was sending out feelers. Ven and Brand were definitely at the house and Ven knew she was there. In meditation she was able to contact her younger sister and tell her to stop sending messages because they were knocking her out. Ven agreed and now it was time to go.

“C’mon, Gyn. We need to head out now.” Riddick handed her a twelve gauge and a revolver. “I’ve got the ammo, so we’re set.”

“Jack,” Gyn said, stepping to the girl. She looked Gyn in the eye and smiled wryly.

“Leaving me behind again, Gyn. I know. I’ll be here when you get back.”

Gyn grinned widely at the girl and pulled her close for a hug. Jack pulled back after a moment and smiled at Gyn. “Thanks for everything, Gyn. I’ll be seeing you around.”

“Gyn, let’s go,” Riddick said, standing in the doorway, looking dark and dangerous. Gyn nodded and they headed out towards the house.

The sun was setting low on the horizon and the dim light made it easy for both Gyn and Riddick to go free of darkened goggles over their sensitive eyes. They ran through the night like silent shadows, covering the ten miles between the ship and Gyn’s old house with amazing speed.

When pinpoints of light became visible in the night the replaced their goggles and slid along the edge of the clearing that the house sat in. They sat on the ground, backs against trees, to check their weapons.

Riddick pulled his shiv and studied the sharp edge coolly, checking for any dull spots. There were none. Gyn did likewise with hers and then they checked the ammo in their guns, cocking them swiftly before looking at each other. It was time to move in.

The plan had been thought over heavily. Gyn had drawn a schematic of the house, pinpointing the best places to hide. Then Riddick had figured out what to do from there.

They’d split up and enter from the north and east sides. Riddick east, Gyn south. From there Gyn would enter the den and slide down the hall to the master bedroom where she would meet Riddick. They could cover the house faster that way and signal each other if there was any trouble.

Gyn made to step into the clearing and Riddick grabbed her arm. She froze and turned to him. He yanked her close to his chest and kissed her deeply, sliding his tongue into her mouth and fisting his hand in her hair. She moaned under the onslaught and raised herself against him, responding fully to him. He groaned then let her go, then they broke and ran for the house silently.

Riddick split away from her and headed towards the east entrance leaving her to the south as they’d planned. The door was locked and that surprised her. She’d never had any locks on the doors. There had been no need that far out. They’d been ready for this though. She pulled the glass cutter from her bag and stuck it on the glass pane of the door. The arm reached around that and she pressed it down and slid it in a circle around the suction handle. The class pulled out easily and she set it on the ground before reaching into the door and finding the lock. Now she had to pick it. The task was easily completed and she then squirted oil on the rusty hinges, making the door open silently.

Gyn slid into the house, the lights bright. She could smell Ven and Brand, and someone else. She didn’t like it, but the scent of her siblings made her almost giddy. She shook her head to clear it, hoping neither Ven or Brand made any signals to say that they knew anyone was there. Gyn was sure they wouldn’t.

Riddick’s presence was easily sensed by her and she heard picked up his scent easily. Ven and Brand knew he was with her but Ven hadn’t asked any questions so the explaining would come later. The smell became stronger as Gyn approached the bedroom and she knew the end was near.

Ven shot Brand a comforting look, knowing he couldn’t answer her without giving away Gyn and Riddick. The fact that their long lost sister was in the same house as them was enough to make Ven want to jump up and down and hug someone - Gyn to be exact. Why Riddick was with her sister was a mystery, but Ven didn’t care as long as she got her sister back.

James, as he’d introduced himself, was sitting on Gyn’s old bed, and reading one of her books. He knew Gyn was coming. Once he’d dragged Ven and Brand on board his ship, finding out who they were hadn’t been hard. Ven had her last name tattooed in plain sight on her shoulder, directly beneath the howling form of a wolf. They’d used each other’s first names in the fight and James had put two and two together.

Exploiting Ven’s ESP, he’d forced her to try and contact Gyn or watch Brand get skinned alive right before he did it to her. The answer had been easy. Call Gyn, save Brand and herself, and watch Gyn slowly take care of James. And now Gyn and Riddick were here and James didn’t have a clue.

Ven leaned back in her stick wooden chair and closed her eyes. Feigning sleep was a good trick, and Brand quickly followed her example.

There was a sudden bang and James bolted to his feet, pulling his gun as he stood. Another bang and he was running for the door. There was a grunt and yelp and suddenly James’ head was visible on the floor, blood coming from a cut on his temple. A dragging sound and James’ head disappeared again.

Then Gyn was stepping into the room with Riddick behind her. Gyn froze and stared at her brother and sister, tied to straight back chairs, gagged. Her eyes misted and she dashed her hand across them and rushed to their sides, pulling her blade. She cut their bonds and then they were all standing together, holding each other, while Riddick watched from the outside. Alone again.

But then Gyn held out an arm to him and he stepped closer slowly and she grabbed his hand and yanked him to her, hugging him.

“Thank you,” she kept repeating in his ear over and over again, and he held her close to his chest. Then she pulled away and was hugging Ven and Brand again, all of them grinning like fools and crushing the air out of one another.

Gyn, Ven, Brand, Riddick, and Jack sat around the table talking quietly.

“Okay, start from the beginning,” Gyn ordered.

“Okay,” Ven began. “After we left Jack on Dres we searched for you about two weeks before getting a lead that you’d been on Titan. Our ship crashed on Rhea and we headed for New-New York.

“There was a convict aboard the ship that escaped in the crash and we found out she used to be a Ranger. We thought she might know where you were, so we gave her a deal. Help us find our sister and we’ll get you as far away from the Company as we can. Riddick was on the Ring Cruiser, that’s the ship that crashed, too, but we didn’t know the person he was looking for was you.” Ven turned to Jack. “And we didn’t know YOU knew Gyn. Some sort of weird circle, huh?

“So anyway. Brand, Rain and I, Rain’s the convict, are getting ready to take off for Dres again when that bastard,” she pointed to James, who was tied and gagged on the floor where they could all kick him if they felt like it, “jumps us and shoots me and Brand. He throws Rain through some glass door and she gets her back totaled by the glass. Brand slices the guy’s throat, right? but misses the jugular, but it’s enough for us to get away.

“Rain helps us to the ship and we take off. Brand patches up her back best he can and passes out ‘cause he’s lost so much blood, but she wraps him up good and opens up my chest to get the bullet out. She cleans me up and then passes out, too.

“When I wake up I’m in one of those mend chambers getting my rib and holes patched up and Brand is in the chamber next to mine. He had to kill some guy to stay with me, but that’s another story, and I’ll let him tell it.

“Sam, the Doc that put me and Brand in the mend chambers, fixed up Rain’s back and then we’re all eatin’ in the hospital’s cafeteria. Brand and Rain go to start checking off supplies and I’m going to meet them there.

“About an hour later, we’re getting ready to head for Dres again when James comes at us again. The damn guy won’t die. He pistol whips me and Brand and shoots Rain. And that’s how we got here. He figured out who were by my tattoo,” Ven pointed to the wolf on her shoulder, “and decided that getting the infamous Wolf family locked up would look real good on his career record and used us as bait. So that’s how we ended up back here.” Ven finished her story with a deep breath and taking a long drink of water.

Gyn turned to Brand. “Where’s Rain?”

“Dead,” Brand whispered. “You’da liked her, I think. You met her, Riddick. Did you like her?”

Riddick turned to the kid and shrugged. “She liked to kill. That’s dangerous. She killed more than me and that’s even more dangerous.”

“Yeah. We thought so, too, Riddick,” Ven replied. “But in the end, she changed. It was weird, but she died for us, and I’ll never forget that.”

“And neither will I,” Gyn added. “Whoever Rain was, she saved you guys for me, and that warrants more debt that I’ll ever be able to repay.

“So who’s this guy you killed at the hospital, Brand? And did you really have to kill him, kiddo?” Gyn asked.

Brand nodded. “Damn straight. First they tried to take me away from Ven when she was in x-ray and I told them no. So the nurse lady goes and gets these two big guys to pull me away. I tell them if they mess with me they’ll get it, but they don’t listen. So the guy makes a dive for me and tries to take my blade. I cut his ribs, but not deep and warn him again. He goes again and I sliced his throat.

“Sam said all the guards or whatever they were at the hospital were part of a criminal program. Basically cheap labor, I’m guessing, and since I killed him it just saved money on executing him. You’re not mad at me for having killed people before, are you, Gyn?” Brand looked worriedly at his oldest sister and shoved his hair away from his face.

Gyn shook her head. “No, I’m not mad at you. You two have done what you felt you had to do. And now it’s finally over. Only one matter of business left,” and she turned to James as she said that.

James, conscious the whole time, knew he was in for the most painful experience of his life by the look in the five peoples’ eyes gathered around him.

Gyn stood first and pulled a chair after her to James’ side. Riddick grabbed the man and hauled him into the chair where Ven began to tie him up. They worked like they had a plan, and James began to wonder if maybe they did. In any case he didn’t like what was going on, and he felt he never would.
